My Computer

You can use any desktop or laptop available to you. It needs to have the following facilities:

  • It must be connected to the internet
  • It must have a working webcam either external or built in
  • It has working speakers so you can hear the information
  • It has Google Chrome browser installed (see video help on how to install Chrome)

The induction system requires your photograph for on site security and as proof that you have sat your induction. Your mobile phone / Tablet requires the system to leave the flow of the induction application and jump to the camera app which is part of the operating system of your mobile device.

This causes your data to become insecure. Hence, you are not allowed to use mobile devices at this time.

If your computer screen has frozen and you cannot continue the registration or induction process, try on of the following

  • Hold down the <CNTRL> key on your keyboard and press <F5> to refresh
  • Close the Chrome Browser and re-launch it. Then go back to the induction portal
  • If it is not resolved, please contact us on support – 0333 733 3232 – Our team will call you back 

When you try to visit the induction portal website on SAFARI in MAC, you may get an error 403. If you notice the web address of the induction portal starts with https://… because this is a secure website.

This issue is known and is due to the Safari browser not resolving the address on the Secure Website. The solution is simple. Please download Chrome in your Safari Browser and simply install it, this is likely to take less than a minute.

My Internet Connection

Yes, you can go to any place where there is a computer facility and a good connection

The connection speed should be good enough to be able to watch video, so a good measure of this would be if you can watch You Tube on your computer, you can sit the induction. 

If you lose your internet connection or your machine / browser closes, do not worry, the data is being save as you go along.

  • If you were in the middle of registration, if you have been sent a PIN on your mobile, then your information is saved and you can use your PIN to login. Go to the induction portal and click the REGISTRATION button, then in the next screen, click the UPDATE button.
  • If you were in the middle of induction, each slide you have visited has been saved. Please visit the induction portal again and enter your PIN. The system will require you to enable your webcam and then take you to where you left off during your induction.

My Webcam and Sound

It is not possible to take this induction without a webcam.

For your security and the security of the hospital site at New Cross – it is necessary to take your photo as part of the induction process.

If your camera does not provide a clear image, your photo will not be valid.
Every Contractor / Merchandiser and Visitor will be checked and their photo compared on the security system. If you are in doubt, please report to the security office on site first.

It can be difficult to resolve a hardware issue as a webcam will have software drivers that make it work in your computers. Try the following:

  • Make sure you are using the recommended browser, Google Chrome
  • In internet explorer 11 and other browsers, the webcam will not work as the browser does not support the software routines that operate the webcam
  • If your webcam is internal to your computer like a laptop for example, try to restart your machine, or use any other application like Facebook to see if the webcam works in that. If it does not, there is a hardware fault and you may need to use a different computer. If the webcam works  on a different application please call our support line
  • If you are using an external webcam, please make sure it works on other applications like Skype or Facebook. Often external webcams may not have the drivers installed, but this issue is quite easy to resolve
  • One of the best ways to resolve webcam issue to simply go onto You Tube and type in search: My webcam does not work – there are many videos that are helpful

If you are not able to hear your speakers, please try the following:

  • Make sure your speakers are connected if they are external. Surprisingly this the most common issue
  • Make sure your volume is high enough for you to hear
  • Can you hear You Tube on your computer? This is a good test
  • A good solution is to visit You Tube and type in the search: My speakers do not work – there are many video that may help

My Internet Browser

We strongly recommend that you use Google Chrome for the induction portal.
It will be the easiest and most hassle free way of quickly getting your registration and induction completed

Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11 and below do not support the required features for accessing the webcam with out additional  plugins being installed. This is a feature of the browser and not fo the induction application. To make it easier for you, we have recommended that you simply use Google Chrome that required no plugins or additional tweaks.

Microsoft EDGE browser that comes with Windows 10 can be used and does support the necessary features to access the webcam.

Safari has some security certificate issues. We recommend that you download Google Chrome in your Safari Browser.
It is already very likely to be installed on your MAC.

You are instructed to use Google Chrome because it will be the most straight forward, problem free way of quickly getting your induction completed

My Trade Competency Card

If your registering as a Contractor, a valid competency card must be provided for this induction and to work on the New Cross Site. This is a mandatory requirement.
Your card details will be automatically verified from CITB instantly, during your registration. If you are a visitor / merchandiser, you should provide your card details if you have one, but it is not mandatory for you to take the induction.

When you provide the expiry date of your trade card during registration it forms part of a report for your Lead Administrator and he is informed of your card status.
Please ensure you renew your card as a matter of urgency if it expires during your work on site, as this could effect your entry/work on site

If your are a contractor working on site, you are required to have a valid competency card.

This is also a requirement for this induction. During your registration you are agreeing to and legally bound to, the terms and conditions presented on this website

In most cases, if you have provided the correct card number and your date of birth you card will be verified online.
If your competency card is not verified on line, this event is recorded and a manual check takes place. If a verification is still not forthcoming, site security personnel are informed of this fact and you need to report to the site security office for a manual presentation of your competency card.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO PHOTOGRAPH YOU COMPETENCY CARD AS CLEARLY AS POSSIBLE DURING REGISTRATION TO AVOID UNNECESSARY INCONVENIENCE

If you are confident that your competency card is valid but the system is not verifying it, do not worry.
Please make sure your details are accurate and that you have taken a clear photograph of your card during the registration process.

It will be verified manually by our support team and during your visit at the security office.

Please inform your supervisor and the your induction admin that your card does not appear on the list of card presented in the registration form

It would also be prudent and much appreciated  to call the Induction Support Team on 0333 733 3232 and leave a message. They will call you back without delay to see if this card should be added to the verified list of cards in the induction portal.

My Registration

Once you have registered your details on the induction portal 

  • You will be sent an email to confirm with your induction PIN
  • You will receive and text SMS with the same PIN
  • Your details will be verified by your administrator
  • After a successful verification you will receive a text SMS
  • You can use you PIN now to login and sit your induction

Yes!
You can use you PIN to login from the induction portal screen and click on UPDATE, here you can update your mobile number.

You can update you details by:

  • Go to the induction portal
  • Click on Registration
  • Click on the UPDATE button at the bottom
  • Enter your PIN and login
  • Update you details

You do not immediately need the National Insurance number to register, but you must update your details as soon as you have them, as they will be checked for security

My Induction

You need a computer to sit the online induction which must 

  • Be connected to the internet
  • Have a webcam
  • Have sound / speakers for you to listen

You can easily go to any of the following places to carryout your induction

  • Library
  • Office
  • Or a friends’ home

You can carry out the induction for multiple contractors. Although your details will be registered once in the system. 

If you have already registered for a lead contractor (a company) and then another company employs your services they will add you to their system and you will need to follow the registration process again, however, when you enter you competency card details, the system will recognise your entry and fill in the rest of the details automatically.

The induction material is designed for your health and safety and that of your colleagues. It is essential that you listen and pay attention to the information provided. It will make you aware of the environment you are working in and help you keep safe.

Your induction, if carried out without interruption, will take no more than approximately 45 minutes

YES! you can resume the induction.

Simply login again as you did the first time form the induction portal, with your PIN. You will be taken to the webcam page to ensure your camera is switched ON, it will then resume to the same slide where you were interrupted.  

YES! you will be taken to the test slides once you have completed the induction.

  • you will be asked 10 questions at random based on the slides you have viewed and listened to
  • If you answer correctly, you will be taken to the next question
  • If you answer incorrectly, you will be taken to REVIEW the slide for that question
  • Once the test is complete, your induction has finished and you will be sent a text SMS
